We present a list of the most common mistakes of those who go outdoors. How to avoid them.
Every camper knows that certain rules should be followed to avoid problems during output. Here we present a compendium of some of the most common mistakes that incur the campers, the desire to enjoy a place or well to reach destination.
( 1) do not make a checklist. Some campers even reviewed the backpack before leaving. It can be that we have no problems, but as Murphy’s law says: “Everything that can go wrong, will go wrong”. It is very convenient to have a checklist prior to the match, which confirmed that the indispensable was stored/made.
( 2) overconfidence. It is a derivation of the previous point. In general is thought to be a camping out simple thing, that one will find a solution on the fly. Nothing more wrong. We have to be ready for all eventualities, especially if you visit a remote area where foreign aid is little or null.
( 3) wrong clothing. What would be fashionable on a campsite? A report by the United States rescue groups, says that in most emergencies, people used clothing incompatible with the scope, such as jeans, pants, etc.
( 4) ignore weather forecasts. We live in years of climate change, the conditions may seem very stable Thursday, but can impair much towards the weekend, leading us to spend an unpleasant moment that can become dangerous. Check the forecast takes five minutes and the security provided is invaluable.
( 5) dismiss signs of storm. Another important point of local meteorology is observation. If we notice an excess of clouds that look like cauliflowers, and that matters are gathering at a point, it indicates that we might be under a storm in a matter of minutes. See note on page 84 of Weekend Edition 505 (October 2014): “How to read the clouds”.
( 6) do not prepare for the night. Among the accessories that we will put in the checklist, it is very important to include a flashlight in hand or mining areas (as far as possible to batteries or batteries with good weather of autonomy). In the case of visiting a cold zone, an insulator or high density nylon, as to isolate themselves.
( 7) food at the bottom of the backpack stocks. The organization is essential. Keep food above is a great way to balance the weight and at the same time preserve the containers. Trekking movement may affect the content of type ziplock bags or plastic packages.
( 8) not carry insect repellent or protective solar. A very common error, which should be among the first points of the checklist. Mosquitoes or long exposure to the Sun without protection of the skin, take that I suffer too much.
( 9) rely too much on technology. New electronic device is a blessing, but trust the navigation and other vital aspects of the campsite only to a smartphone or GPS is at least dangerous. For that reason, it is convenient to have a map on paper in the area and, if you can, a handie for communications.
( 10) bag sleeping wrong. These camping accessories manufacturers prove their products at minimum temperatures, to ensure the protection of users. We camped in the winter or in mountains during the summer, should take into account the average minimum temperature to choose the sleeping bag.
( 11) pitch the tent anywhere. A typical error is to install the tent right under a tree or in a low area or where water flows. We must analyze the ground and see the slopes, in addition to the slides, to avoid setting up camp in an area that is dangerous during a storm.
( 12) store bottles upside down. The ice tends to form on the top of the bottle. If we want to prevent freezing the top and we can not open it, it is best to store them upside down tightly closed.
( 13) establish “safe” area. There is nothing better than walking quiet family areas known and well-marked. In the case that we want to venture to a place less populous or inhospitable, we must make a prior survey only to recognize the area, especially to evaluate dangers for children.
( 14) not to take unknown shortcuts. In the effort to reach destination, often tend to take unused roads or trails of cowboys who seem to be an excellent choice. Only known corners, or you explore them very carefully once the camp was armed.
( 15) ignore blisters. The foot health is vital to reach it where Israelites camp, there are people who suffer from a blister and continues to advance. It is a mistake, since we dies the next day. The best is stop, clean the affected area with a clean, damp cloth, apply an adhesive strip and cut excess skin may peel off. True prevention of blisters begins at home, testing the boots with anticipation.
( 16) disorganised camp. Even if we are in a small camp of one or two people, it is vital to have all ordered. Know where is each accessory or a first aid kit is essential during an emergency. In addition, it will help to avoid accidents.
( 17) separated during an emergency. Some people, desperation or lack of knowledge of the area, often spreading to seek help. It should any member of the camp suffer an accident, must be few people looking for help along the same path, if not we will add more problems.
( 18) charging too much food. Very common among beginners: carry tons of food, as if they were to be month campaign. For the average person, store per day 1 kg of food containing 4,000 calories.
( 19) insufficient water. Closely related to the previous point, takes too much food but little water. You have to estimate three litres of water per person each 8 km long. In the case of stationary, that amount of water will pay for 6-8 hours. Remember to drink water only from reliable sources (good rivers or lakes).
( 20) dry evil teams. The people estimated that leaving the clothing, boots or tent near the fire will dry faster and better. It is incorrect: the fire will split the boots, you can burn the clothes and tents. Remember to save only those accessories that are dry. Otherwise is the perfect recipe for fungi to be generated.
