Duvet (down, in English) is still the best insulating material, which provides maximum shelter with less weight. It consists of soft tufts of ultra-light filaments, growing up without the cannula that have larger feathers. The best quality is given by the use of the maximum amount of duvet in its composition. When the quality is lower, it may contain a percentage of feathers and loose strands that do not possess soft and pure duvet coat capability.
The best quality of duvet is obtained from goose feathers, and older have Tufts bigger, strong and durable. There is an international method to determine the quality and performance of the duvet. This is the fill power, the volume in cubic inches, occupied by an ounce (28.35 grams) of down when it reaches its maximum expansion or loft. Thus, under the 500 cubic inch quality is poor, from 500 to 600 is medium, more than 600 to 650 very good, and 700 or more, excellent.
